Candlemas Day

It is bright and sunny this candlemas morning. A mild and spring-like day. This would have been the perfect day to present Our Lord at the temple. According to an old proverb (and Balzac Billy the local groundhog), it means winter is to stay for another 6 weeks. I don't mind if the winter continues on as it has been so far this year. We have had a mild winter with the exception of two weeks where the weather was in the -30C's and -40C's.

As the light grows longer
The cold grows stronger
If Candlemas be fair and bright
Winter will have another flight
If Candlemas be cloud and rain
Winter will be gone and not come again

The presentation of Our Lord is a special day in this house. Not only does is mark the last day of the Christmas season, it is also my dear husband's birthday. Today he turns 37! Where has the time gone? He was 23 when we first met.

This is a picture of his last birthday in Germany. That was five years ago.

This is his first birthday ever celebrated in Canada in 2008.

My dearest is working today, so I don't have a picture to share. He has requested brownies with whipped cream for his cake. I haven't decided whether or not we will adorn the cake brownies with candles or not. I will share with you where I got the recipe because it has become a family favourite. Don't be intimidated by the weird ingredients. It tastes really, really good and is pretty healthy.

I wish you all a wonderful candlemas day. God Bless.
